Frederick “Fred” Thomas Strachan, III, died peacefully at his home in Lyman on August 4, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born in Boston, MA, a son of Frederick Thomas and Veronica Agnes (O’Neill) Strachan, Jr. He was a 1960 graduate of Arlington High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business from Salem State College in Salem, MA.



He served our country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and went on to join the reserves and retired after 20 years.



On November 4, 1991 he married Elaine St. Amand in Tiverton, RI.



Fred worked as a pipefitter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for over 20 years retiring in 2008.



He was a member of the “Rush Mates” which was a group of men who served aboard the ship called the “USS William R. Rush” and also a member of the American Legion Post #23 in Salem, MA.



Besides his parents he was predeceased by his twin sister Martha Strachan in March of 2013.



He is survived by his wife of 22 years Elaine Strachan of Lyman

1 daughter: Elise Blakemore and her husband DJ of Washington, DC

1 brother: Richard Strachan and his wife Doris of Texas

1 sister: Jane Lima of North Carver, MA

2 granddaughters: Arden Veronica Blakemore

Ava Jordan Blakemore, both of Washington, DC

1 nephew, 3 nieces & 4 great-nieces



A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday August 10, 2013 at St. Philips Church in Lyman. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, ME 04005. In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501
